As part of the 2026 Dreiländertagung, ‘It's a match!’ creates an open space for informal exchange between early career scholars ('Q-Wissenschaftler*innen') and more experienced colleagues on practical research, conceptual, scientific and disciplinary policy issues. All early career scholars are cordially invited to join the discussion at one of the theme tables, which will, however, most likely take place in German. It is not necessary to prepare a presentation or written submission. For better planning, we would appreciate a non-binding online registration for one of the theme tables by 31 May 2026 via the meineDVPW portal, but spontaneous participation is also possible.

All participants will meet at 3 p.m. in the foyer of the ZF Campus for a joint kick-off before the exchange begins at the four themed tables in different rooms.

Die erfolgreiche Einwerbung von Drittmitteln ist heute ein zentraler Bestandteil wissenschaftlicher Karrieren und gewinnt insbesondere in den frühen Karrierephasen zunehmend an Bedeutung. Neben innovativen Forschungsfragen sind strategische Überlegungen, die Auswahl geeigneter Förderformate und eine überzeugende Antragsskizze entscheidend. Doch wie entwickelt man eine tragfähige Drittmittelstrategie? Welche Erwartungen haben Förderorganisationen? Und wie lassen sich eigene Forschungsinteressen mit diesen Anforderungen in Einklang bringen? Der Austausch von Erfahrungen und bewährten Verfahren kann dabei helfen, den Prozess besser zu verstehen. Es sollen konkrete Herangehensweisen, Stolpersteine sowie die Frage diskutiert werden, wie strategisches Vorgehen langfristig zur Profilbildung und Karriereentwicklung beitragen kann.

Mentor*innen: Daniela Braun, Professorin für Politikwissenschaft mit Schwerpunkt Europäische Integration und Internationale Beziehungen an der Universität des Saarlandes, und Anja Jakobi, Professorin für Politikwissenschaft und Internationale Beziehungen an der Technischen Universität Braunschweig

Der akademische Arbeitsmarkt ist durch hohe Konkurrenz, befristete Beschäftigungsverhältnisse und vielfältige Karrierepfade geprägt. Dies stellt insbesondere Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler in frühen Karrierephasen vor große Herausforderungen. Neben fachlicher Exzellenz gewinnen strategische Entscheidungen zunehmend an Bedeutung: Wann ist der richtige Zeitpunkt für eine Bewerbung? Welche Profile werden in unterschiedlichen Disziplinen und Institutionstypen nachgefragt? Und wie lassen sich Bewerbungsunterlagen gezielt auf verschiedene Ausschreibungen zuschneiden? Der Austausch über Erfahrungen, Bewerbungsstrategien und Entscheidungsprozesse kann dabei helfen, Orientierung in diesem oft unübersichtlichen System zu gewinnen. Ziel der Diskussion ist es, individuelle Strategien sichtbar zu machen und gemeinsam zu reflektieren, wie Unsicherheiten reduziert und realistische Karrierewege im akademischen Kontext entwickelt werden können.

Mentor*innen: Marius Sältzer, Professor für Digital Social Science an der Universität Oldenburg, und Thomas Sommerer, Professor für Politikwissenschaft, insbesondere internationale Organisationen, an der Universität Potsdam

Polarisierte gesamtgesellschaftliche Debatten in Verbindung mit insbesondere durch autoritäre Kräfte forcierten Kulturkämpfen sind auch für die wissenschaftliche Community folgenreich: Wenn ganze Forschungsbereiche wie bspw. Gender Studies oder Rechtsextremismusforschung als unwissenschaftlich und ideologisch diskreditiert oder Förderzusagen von politischen Positionen abhängig gemacht werden, was bedeutet das für die Wissenschaftsfreiheit? Wie lässt sich eine politische Indienstnahme von Wissenschaft verhindern und Wissenschaftsfreiheit verteidigen?

Das Absprechen von Expertise und Wissenschaftlichkeit ist dabei nicht auf abstrakte Forschungsbereiche beschränkt, sondern äußert sich auch in Angriffen auf Forschende selbst. Auch unabhängig von konkreten Forschungsfeldern berichten insbesondere Frauen und genderqueere Wissenschaftler*innen, Forschende mit Migrationsbiografie und mit Behinderungen von diskriminierenden Erfahrungen im Wissenschaftskontext, wie auch eine gerade von der DVPW durchgeführte Mitgliederbefragung bestätigt.

Wie können solche Angriffe aussehen, wie kann man sich darauf vorbereiten? Wie kann man sich vor offenen Angriffen auf die eigene Forschung und/oder Person schützen? Wie bei erlebter oder beobachteter Diskriminierung reagieren? Welche Beratungsstellen und universitären Anlaufstellen können weiterhelfen? Diese und weitere Fragen sollen Thema des Austauschs sein.

Mentor*innen: Gert Pickel, Professor für Religions- und Kirchensoziologie an der Universität Leipzig

Ein zunehmend wichtiges Einstellungskriterium auf dem akademischen Arbeitsmarkt ist die Wissenschaftskommunikation. Doch was heißt das eigentlich? Welche Unterschiede bestehen zwischen verschiedenen Forschungsfeldern? Welche Formen der Wissenschaftskommunikation auf welchen Plattformen und in welchen Medien und Formaten gibt es und welche Vor- und Nachteile haben diese jeweils? Wie findet man die für die eigene Person passenden Kommunikationsformen? Wie wird man als mögliche Ansprechperson für Medien sicht- und anfragbar?  Wie geht man überhaupt mit Medienanfragen um vor allem: Wie kommen wir im Rahmen der Wissenschaftskommunikation zu klar verständlichen und zugleich wissenschaftlich integren Botschaften?
