Call for Panels

"World in Flux. What about Political Science?"

30th DVPW Convention, 7–10 September 2027, Leipzig University

The DVPW calls for panel proposals for the DVPW Convention in September 2027. The convention seeks to do justice to the diversity of our members regarding career stages and gender, and it aims at facilitating exchange across institutions. The Programme Committee will therefore take these criteria into account when selecting the sessions.

The criteria for submitting panel proposals are:

  • Each panel proposal must be submitted by one or two panel chairs. Each person can act only twice as panel chair.

  • Panel chairs assign their panel to at least one section (Sektion) and one or two additional DVPW sections, standing groups (Arbeitskreise) or thematic networks (Themengruppen). It is not necessary to obtain prior approval by the respective DVPW groupings.

  • Panels may be proposed and held in English or German; however, the language needs to be consistent throughout a panel.

  • Each person can propose a maximum of two contributions as author or co-author to panels at the convention. Roles as discussant are not limited.

  • We welcome participants from abroad. There will be the opportunity for panel chairs to apply for subsidies towards travel expenses by the German Research Foundation (DFG) through the DVPW.

We invite two types of panel proposals:

  • Proposals for closed panels, which feature a panel title, abstract (max. 250 words), and three keywords as well as proposals for all persons involved (chair, discussant, paper givers) and titles and abstracts of all contributions. Each panel should comprise four or five paper contributions. Please submit your proposal for a closed panel by 31 October 2026.

  • Proposals for open panels, which contain only the panel title, abstract (max. 250 words), and three keywords. Please submit your proposal for an open panel by 15 August 2026.

Upon acceptance by the Programme Committee, a call will go out for individual paper submissions via the DVPW website by early September that closes on 31 October 2026. The panel chairs will then select four or five contributions for their panel and communicate their decisions including proposals for at least one discussant to the Programme Committee by the end of November.

Please submit your proposals via the portal meineDVPW. The Programme Committee is expected to communicate its decision about submissions by the end of this year.
