Following our first Democracy in- the-making workshop in Aachen, we are delighted to announce a second meeting in Kraköw this September. The workshop, “(Un)Making Democracy: Evaluative and Normative Positionings in Post-foundational Studies of Democracy," will take place on Monday 7 at AGH University (where EASST will take place) and Tuesday 8, as part of the ECPR General Conference at Jagiellonian University.
With ECPR and EASST taking place in Kraköw during the same week, this meeting offers a valuable opportunity to continue building conversations between Democracy Studies and Science and Technology Studies.
The workshop continues the discussions we began in Aachen about approaching democracy through post- foundational perspectives and the performative practices through which democracy is made, contested and transformed.
This time, we will focus particularly on how researchers can engage with evaluative and normative questions without returning to fixed or essentialist definitions of democracy.
While the workshop builds on the Aachen meeting, it is very much open to new participants. We warmly welcome researchers who were not able to join us in Aachen, as well as others interested in questions of democracy, normativity, evaluation and post-foundational research across STS and Democracy Studies.
The programme will combine keynote eontributions, commentaries and focused discussions.
