CfP - PROTOTYPING A PLANETARY DEMOCRACY

PLANETARY SCHOLARS & ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM (2022-2025)

In 2025, we award eight three-month fellowships (5000€/per month) to individuals/transdisciplinary pairs with an advanced academic or artistic record relevant to the underlying themes (1) PLANETARY AGENCY or (2) PLANETARY POLITICS for the periods April-June and September-November. The overarching aim of this dual-themed year lies in designing the building blocks of a PLANETARY DEMOCRACY prototype; a new form of democratic government that aims at keeping the Earth habitable and includes more-than-human agents.

In their efforts to conceptualize and experiment with strategies to integrate more-than-human agencies into politics, selected fellows may focus on either Planetary Agency/Planetary Politics, or they may address both themes complementarily. Applicants can apply for both periods (summer and winter) if the envisioned project requires more than one term to be realized. As in previous years, we seek scholars and artists willing to engage in transdisciplinary dialogues with their co-fellows while realizing a joint event. Furthermore, next year’s artist fellows receive the opportunity to contribute to a final exhibition which is co-organized by the Panel and Kunsthalle Giessen, the city’s leading space for contemporary art. The show opens in November 2025 and showcases the results of the consecutive, four-year program.

Applications must be sent to panelplanet.uni-giessende by July 24, 2024. Please see our website or the attached call for more details.

You are most welcome to circulate our call within your networks and assist us in announcing this opportunity to a wide range of international candidates. Feel free to use the teaser below in any website- or newsletter embeddings or email texts, according to your preference.
