Job Profile

The Department of Political Science at the University of Zurich (www.ipz.uzh.ch) invites applications for a three-year post-doctoral research position in the research group "Politics and Inequality" led by Assistant Professor Thomas Kurer (www.thomaskurer.net). The starting date is flexible between September 2025 and January 2026 (or upon agreement). The position is research-focused and comes with no teaching obligation.

The successful candidate will conduct research in at least one of the following areas, with flexibility to shape the focus based on their own expertise and interests: 

  • Intergenerational mobility and political behaviour
  • Political consequences of technological change and labor market transformation

The position is embedded within a supportive research environment and offers considerable scope for academic independence, while also encouraging collaboration with the group leader and other members of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Take a leading role in further developing early-stage work in the above-mentioned research areas, including both conceptual and empirical work
  • Drive the preparation and refinement of manuscripts toward successful publication
  • Initiate and pursue new research ideas within the broader project field, both independently and in collaboration with the research group and/or other members of the department
  • Provide support for research, organizational, and administrative tasks

Profile

  • PhD in political science or a related discipline (completed or close to completion)
  •  Strong interest in the political implications of structural transformation and labor market change in advanced capitalist democracies
  • Ambition and ability to produce high-quality and high-impact research in the area of the research group, both independently and in a team.
  • Proficiency in quantitative research methods.
  • Previous experience with handling large data sets is an asset Very good command of English; working knowledge of German is an asset
