The Chair of Comparative Political Science (Prof. Dr. Nicole Bolleyer) at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (LMU) at the Geschwister Scholl Institute of Political Science is advertising with the possible start dates of 1st March or 1st April 2021 two positions of

Doctoral/postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d)

Both positions may be either filled as Assistant professorships (100%, TV-L E13 or 100%, A13: "BeamtIn auf Zeit") for candidates with a doctoral degree or as independent part-time doctoral positions (50%, TV-L E13).

Job Description

  • The independent implementation of a postdoctoral/doctoral research project in a thematic area relevant to the chair (see below) and contribution to joint research projects at the chair.
  • Publication of research results (individually and in teams).
  • Provision of teaching in the area of comparative politics (5 ‘Semesterwochenstunden‘ (equivalent to 5 x 45-minute weekly sessions) per semester or 2.5 ‘Semesterwochen- stunden‘ per semester).
  • Contribution to administrative tasks at the chair.

Job Requirements

  • An excellent dissertation in a discipline relevant for comparative social science research.
  • Research goals in the comparative social sciences. Research goals relevant to the profile of the chair are desirable. These include the comparative study of democracy and institu- tions (e.g. legal regulation of political actors, institutional reform and its consequences, crisis and crisis management in advanced democracies) and the comparative study of po- litical and/or social organizations in advanced democracies (parties, interest groups, civil society organizations, etc.).
  • A good knowledge of cross-national data analysis (quantitative and/or qualitative). Knowledge in advanced quantitative methods is desirable.
  • Fluency in English. Good German skills are desirable.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and in teams.

Our Offer

Pay is based on TV-L ‘Entgeltgruppe’ E 13. In the case of doctoral researchers posts are allocated as part-time with 20.05 hours per week respectively. In the case of assistant professors work load is 40.1 hours a week.

The posts ought to be filled by March 1 or April 1 2021 and are restricted to a duration of three years (probation 6 months). The assistant professor positions can be extended for three more years.
