The Heidelberg Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS) and the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciencesat Heidelberg University, Germany, invite applications for a non-tenured position as
Junior Professor of Politics and Communication in Ibero-America (W1)
to be filled as soon as possible. The position is available for a maximum tenure of 6 years, with an initial term of four years and a second term of two years subject to successful evaluation.
The junior professorship is based at the newly established Heidelberg Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS) and affiliated with the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. The HCIAS is a central research and teaching institution at Heidelberg University, Germany’s oldest university, at which the Ibero-America-related research of different university colleges (faculties) converges, offering a unique range of expertise to address interdisciplinary issues concerning this region.
The successful candidate is expected to teach and pursue research in the field of Ibero-American politics, with particular emphasis on political communication. The junior professor will also sharethe rights and duties of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (academic self-governance, teaching, examinations). S/he will teach in the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. programs of the HCIAS and the Institute of Political Science at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. The teaching load is two courses per semester before, and three courses per semester after,successful evaluation. The evaluation regulations can be accessed through the Human Resources Division of Heidelberg University.
In accordance with Section 51 Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg (the Baden-Württemberg State Higher Education Act), the successful candidate is expected to have an excellent Ph.D. or doctorate in political science or a closely related field. S/he should have good pedagogical skills and teaching ability in Englishas well as an excellent publication and promising research record in the relevant field(s). For applicants who have held academic positions in Germany before or after theirdoctorate, doctoral and pre-/post-doctoral employment phases together should not exceed six years.
Provided that the general legal (German civil service law) and budgetary regulations are fulfilled, the appointed candidate can be accorded temporary civil-servant status.
