PhD Research Fellow positions in social sciences

The Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Agder, Kristiansand, Norway, invites applications for 2 - 6 full-time PhD Research Fellow positions for a period of three years, alternatively four years with 25% of the time assigned to tasks at the Faculty’s discretion.

 

The Faculty consists of four departments:Dept. of Political Science and Management, Dept. of Global Development and Planning, Dept. of Information Systems and Dept. of Sociology and Social Work. There are approximately 110 Faculty and staff members and 1700 students at the Faculty.

 

Description of the positions

We welcome applications that address any research area within the social sciences, as long as they fit the research represented at the Faculty. Applicants are strongly encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Faculty’s research groups and the research interests of Faculty staff

Applicants should indicate which group or research area for which their proposal will be relevant. The project proposal will be essential to the evaluation of the application.

 

Qualifications and terms

Further provisions relating to the positions as PhD Research Fellows can be found in the Regulations Concerning Terms and Conditions of Employment for the post of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Research Fellow, Research Assistant and Resident.

 

The applicants must qualify for admission to the PhD Program in Social Sciences and must hold a master’s degree in Social Sciences or Humanities with an average grade of B or better. Applicants who are in the process of finishing their master’s theses are also welcome to apply for this position.

Applicants must submit a project proposal with a scope as advised above. The project proposal should comprise a maximum of ten pages in length, including the reference list. The proposal must contain a preliminary presentation of the scientific approach, theoretical foundation, methodological approach and progression plan. The quality of the project proposal will have considerable weight in the evaluation of the applications.

 

We are looking for applicants who will be able to work in a goal-oriented, organised, focused and independent manner. During the assessment process, emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s examination results as well as any previous research and development work. Relevant practical experience, personal suitability and good teamwork skills will also be emphasised. Fluency in written and oral English is a pre-requisite. Fluency in one of the Scandinavian languages will apply to some of the fellowships. Short-listed applicants will be invited for interviews.

The position is remunerated within the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017, NOK 449.400. A 2% compulsory pension contribution will be deducted and paid to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund according to current statutory provisions.
